How do you become a massage therapist?

Do you have to go to school? is there some kind of a licence or certification? how about ayurvedic massages? how much money does a massage therapist make?

Yes you have to go to school to learn the parts of the body pressure points etc. You get certified. Money is all up to you and how good you are.

Try your local tech or community college. Usually takes about 1 1/2 yrs.

you do have to get licensed, check online for several options for schools in your area and financing.

Yes, you do have to go to a recognized massage school, then challenge a certification board exam in order to get licensed in your state. Specialty massages are typically extra-credit courses beyond the basic massage program. For instance, I’m a Level 1 certified geriatric massage therapist, which I got after graduating from the basic school.

How much you make depends on a lot of factors…whether you are an independent contractor versus working for a spa, where you live, etc. Bottom line: you won’t get rich, but it can be very rewarding.
